Dale Hembrow

In Australia, most people know Dale as the founder and leader of Grandview Records, one of the few organisations in Australia committed to developing and supporting emerging Christian artists. At Grandview, Dale has worked with some of Australia’s best and brightest including Redruth, Greg Attwells, Tanya Riches (Hillsong United) and Grant Norsworthy (Paul Colman Trio).

What many don’t know, is that prior to God leading Dale to ‘laying down his gift’ in 2005, instead to support other artists, Dale was primarily a singer, songwriter and worship-leader. He had recorded numerous releases and had a growing profile in Australia and internationally. Open The Floodgates, the EP’s title track and lead single, is Dale’s first new release for almost ten years. He explains: – “In 2005, the artist in me was, in a very real way, put to death as a sacrifice at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ. I never thought I was going to play music again! It was really quite a painful experience but in retrospect I can see how important it was for all traces of the egocentric artist in me to die. Like many creative people, much of my identity was located in my gifting as a musician and not in my true identity as a child of God. It’s totally different this time around. There is so much more freedom!”

Phil Gaudion from Grammy-nominated Paul Colman Trio recorded and co-produced the EP. It includes guest spots from some of Australia’s top Christian musicians including Jared Haschek (Compliments of Gus) and Stacey Hilliar (Bridge Church). For Dale, his recordings are really just the tip of the iceberg. He partners with a number of national and international ministries seeing him play everywhere from tiny churches through to Australia’s Parliament House. The song Open The Floodgates was written within the context of campus ministry in Australia where the song is an emerging anthem.
